About

Ms. Braun

Educational Background and Philosophy

“The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves.” - Paulo Freire

Ms. Braun has had the privilege to teach and learn at Tupper Secondary since 2004. Prior to coming to Tupper, Ms. Braun taught in a variety of schools here in Vancouver and abroad (South Africa, New Jersey). She holds degrees from UBC  (MA , BED both focusing on Secondary English Education) and McGill University (BA, English Literature and Anthropology). She has been the English Department Head since 2007.

Ms. Braun sees teaching as more than a job: for her, it's a passion, a creative calling, and a lot of fun! She believes that all students (like teachers) have strengths and challenges and are capable of growth. She is committed to helping her students gain the skills they need to be successful in academics and life. She loves working with students and is grateful to be part of the Tupper community.

Personal Life

When not teaching, Ms. Braun has a full life. She loves spending time with her family (especially Mr. Braun and  Aiden) and friends, physical pursuits (such as running, dragonboating, hiking), travelling, creating and immersing herself in stories (primarily through reading, writing, watching media, music), and being open to the moment.
